A Better Pleasure
TOPIC: A BETTER PLEASURE
READ GENESIS 3:1-15
MEMORISE: For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil. (Genesis 3:5)
Message
Desire can be deceitful sometimes. It has the power to lead one either to the throne or the tomb, to slavery or freedom, to true joy or mirage of satisfaction. The war of faith and desire began in the Garden of Eden.
In Genesis 3:5, Satan ended his controversial attack on Eve's emotion and faith by influencing her logic, causing her to question not only the commandment of God, but the character of God. Hmm! What a terrible suicide in disguise! He used his demonic craftiness to subtly lie to Eve, telling her that God will not do what He said, that He was not as good as she thought or had been told He was. He subtly attacked the character of God (candour/faithfulness) by rendering meaningless God's command to the unsuspecting woman.
When the character of God comes into question, man's heart begins to tilt its desire towards something else, something worthless, and something ungodly. 'After all', so the questions go, 'Can God really be trusted?' Eve started down this path, which then led her to see and believe satanic illusionary pleasures in the tree. Her desires craved satisfaction and her heart turned away from her Creator. The end is what the entire humanity is still paying for till date, but for the redemptive work of Christ reducing the effects.
As you are stepping out today, what are your desires? The search for a better pleasure outside Christ leads to chaos and bastardized destiny. Run from evil desires today in order to get to your promised land and later.
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, I refuse to be caught off guard by the devil's deceit in all my life's endeavours, in Jesus' name.
2. Oh Lord, let Your Spirit of holiness and faithfulness always moderate my desires and ambitions.
3. Lord, let every straying youth see the dangers of prodigality and return home to You with broken, contrite heart.
