Pitfalls

TOPIC: PITFALLS
READ: Psalm 25:1--5

MEMORISE
Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. (Psalm 25:4--5)

EXPOSITION
As a pastor, I am frequently asked how to make the right decision in challenging circumstances. Sadly, I see many people make mistakes in this area.
For example, some people pray hastily for the Lord to lead them, but do not listen for His answer which He can give as He wishes. Instead, they make their own decision and trust that He will bless it. But expecting God to bless what is not of Him will lead to wasting of time. To avoid disappointment, we must be aware of several pitfalls that interfere with hearing His directives of love. Remember, there is permissive will. (Num. 22:9-12, 29--40).
First, be mindful of fleshly desires. Wants are not necessarily wrong, but longing become unhealthy when they consume our thoughts. Eventually, we might believe that our desired outcome is God's will, when in reality, we were not really listening to His voice.
Second, watch out for faulty advice. Even well - meaning Christian friends can lead us in the wrong direction. We should carefully seek counsel from those who walk closely with Jesus and are grounded in His Word.
Third, be careful when you are feeling impatient, doubtful, or pressured in any way. These emotions can lead you to make rash decisions apart from the Lord's best for your life. Patience is hard, but His perfect will is always worth the waiting.
As you are stepping out today, determine to follow God's leading. Do this by cleansing your heart, asking for guidance, waiting, and listening. When you trust Christ as Saviour, His Holy Spirit comes into your heart and seals you as His child. He will teach you how to live a godly life, direction is yours, if you ask and believe.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me to avoid the dangerous pitfalls that can finish me in life.
2. Ask God to forgive you as touching those things you have done without recourse to His desire for you.
3. Pray for our church, political and traditional leaders, that God should help them to overcome the pitfalls set before them by the devil.
