TOPIC: ONE + ONE = ONE
READ: Ephesians 5:22-35
MEMORISE: Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her. (Ephesians 5:22,25)
EXPOSITION
The design of God, our creator is for the relationship between couples to fuse them together perfectly in one indivisible unit. This is to typify the relationship between Christ and His Church and between God and Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
This perfect unity is the main goal of Christian marriage. This is not for unbelievers but for believers in Christ for whom Christ Jesus is the pillar, the foundation and the cover of the home. In this mystery, Christ is their sustenance and His provisions are adequate.
But most Christian homes today undergo unnecessary strains and conflicts because many couples have changed their focus. Love, which is the basis of relationship has been replaced with lust, infatuation has swept affection away, all these result in confusion and division.
Christian couple must realize that love, another name for Jesus Christ, is the fuel that sustains marriage. They must live in love and thus shame the devil. If we look at it from that perspective, we will make advanced success every time Satan wants to show up his ugly face between the husband and wife. Husband and Wife should put it in mind that if they love each other as Christ loves the church, their Christian life will be credible before Christ. Not only that they will be good example for their children, neighbours and to everyone who sees them living according to Christ’s pattern of life as others would want to emulate them.
Therefore, wife must submit to her husband and husband must care for the wife as Christ cared for the Church. Do you care for your wife? Wives, do you respect your husband? Children do obey your parents? These things are compulsory for Christian homes to progress and as a representative of Christ here on the planet earth. Please adjust wherever you are being found wanting.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, help me to increase my understanding of Your desire for marriage, and how to make my marriage work till eternity.
2. Lord, let unbiased love (agape) exist and reign between my spouse and me.
3. Call down the fire of the Holy Spirit to consume the wiles of the devil against Christian homes, most especially those of the church leaders.
