Action Speaks Louder Than Voice

TOPIC: ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN VOICE
Read 2 Samuel 1:9-14
MEMORISE
Therefore David took hold of his own clothes and tore them, and so did all the men who were with him. (2 Samuel 1:11)

EXPOSITION
A child was once asked "What are the names of your parents "? He responded by saying that his father's name was 'unfortunate ' while his mother's name was ' a fool '. These were the names both parents called each other when they quarrelled, and this had stuck into the boy's memory. Our ways of life are messages to those around us, and children, who learn fast from pictures.
The enmity between the house of Saul and that of David, notwithstanding, David could not hide his sympathy for Saul and Jonathan when he heard of their death, especially as the man from Amalek narrated it. This prompted him to tear his clothes in sympathy and mourning for his friend, and master. His followers immediately did the same.
Most times, leaders /parents don't know the weight of their actions. Though words can impact our children, they tend to believe and act more on what they see. When a word is passed to others, they may have to ruminate over them for some time, before taking actions ( Acts 17:11). It is important we sieve our actions just as we sieve our messages before giving them out to the public. Leaders / parents are like films, being watched by children. Do you see in your children some of your actions? If we must leave a better society, then we must display acts of holiness, righteousness, kindness, peace, and those things that can make our children better, even when we are gone.
We must also control what movies our children see, which places they go, who their friends are, etc. Paul says, Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ (1 Cor. 11:1). David was a godly man whose action imparted his followers with godly attitude of compassion and love. Who you follow dictates what you do. Peter and John followed Jesus and that accounts for the exploits the duo were able to make ( Acts 4:13). People are watching you!

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, forgive me where my actions have led others astray, and put the mind of Christ in me.
2. Father, put the right spirit in our leaders/parents, and make them conscious of the integrity their positions demand.
3. Lord, change the mind of the corrupt politicians and arouse their consciousness to the plights of the suffering masses.
