Maintain Your Salt

TOPIC: MAINTAIN YOUR SALT
Read: Matthew 5:10-14
MEMORISE: Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another (Mark 9:50).
EXPOSITION
It is arguable if salt can ever become worthless! Apart from salt’s seasoning and preservative abilities over and above every other ingredient in the kitchen, it is the commodity given power to bring out taste. Although many are said to be allergic to, or medically exempted from consuming salt, a larger majority depend on it to make their food palatable.
However, here we are talking about a worthless salt! How come? Jesus, hi His sermon on the mount (the Beatitudes), put it to us: Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? (Mk 9:50a). The literary salt loses its savour when it is indiscriminately exposed to the sunlight longer than necessary, or when allowed to have contact with water. Have you seen salt that has solidified and become as stone? Such is the useless salt.
Christians are salts, and so we must work hard to serve as seasoning agents and preservatives to the corrupt, tasteless and decaying world around us. We have to maintain our salt, so that our flavour is not gone. Societies, organizations, government, and everyone expect us to add salt to their bitter or tasteless lives. The onus is on us. We can’t afford to disappoint at this point. But first, let us endeavour to maintain our saltiness.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Thank God for empowering us to be the real salt of this corrupt world.
2. Pray that God should grant Christian homes enabling grace to continue to be together regardless of the devil’s antics.
3. Restore, oh Lord, Your children who have lost their salts to the passion, corruption and immorality of the world.
