Understanding The Weapons Of Satan (III)

TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING THE WEAPONS OF SATAN (III)

Read: Luke 22:1-6

MEMORISE: But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed (James 1:14).

EXPOSITION
Another strategic weapon that Satan fights all Christians with is, temptation through LUSTS. What is lust? Lust is a craving. It is a strong desire for something or someone. It can take any form, such as the lust for sex, food, money or power. Lust is focused on pleasing oneself, often without regard to detrimental consequences. Lust is regarded as the principle of corrupt nature, which resident in the heart of man. It is natural or hereditary to him, and therefore is called his own.
Our memory Scripture shows that lust is the great cause of sin. It has a greater hand in it than either the Devil or his instruments, which cannot conquer our souls by force; he comes through the areas of our spiritual weaknesses. When Satan tempts people, he does not make them act contrary to their nature, but leads them on to act out their proper disposition. According to James 1:15, when inner desire responds to outward enticement, sin is spawned. When a man falls into temptation through his own desire, he is acting on the fleshly nature passed down through the complete seed of Adam. Truly, Satan is the external source of temptation, but no one can blame him for the roots of sinful deeds which lie within the individual.
What Satan could not do envy and malice of the high priests and Pharisees, he effects by Judas because of his lust for money (Luke 22:3). Satan entered into Judas’ heart and caused him to betray his master. He stirred up, and worked upon the corruptions of his heart, suggested evil things to his mind, and battled his temptations agreeable to his covetousness. Covetousness is the root of sin. An eager and insatiable thirst for the world is the parent of the most monstrous sins. Do you know your breaking point? I mean the areas of your life where Satan can easily tempt you. If you know them, don’t take them with levity. “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Pet.2:11).
Temptation itself is not a sin, but yielding into it, is a sin. CACGHB 633
